It all began in 1607 with a money exchanger.
In the early 17th century, before the construction of Kumamoto Castle, the first head of the Okubo family was already running a money exchange business and sake brewery.
In 1869 (Meiji 2), the 11th head of the Okubo family changed the business from sake brewing to soy sauce brewing.
The shop name at that time was "Hisaya."
After that, the sales channels expanded beyond Kumamoto Prefecture to the whole of Kyushu, Kansai, and overseas.
The name Demachi Hisaya represents the starting point of Fundodai Soy Sauce.
